Persian mag to pay homage to Qajar era painter Mir Musavvir

TEHRAN,May 29(MNA) -- The Persian art magazine Tandis will commemorate the Qajar era master of painting Mir Musavvir during a ceremony at Tehran’s Barg Gallery today. Tandis Managing Director Mohammad-Hassan Hamedi, and art expert Nematollalh Keikavusi are scheduled to deliver speeches about the artworks and character traits of the master. Seyyed Hossein Arjangi (1881-1943), also known as Mir Musavvir, was born in Tabriz. He is famous for his paintings, as well as for his miniature and illumination works. His carpet designs are also unique. Mir Musavvir was the son of Seyyed Ebrahim Mir, a famous painter of Tabriz. Mir Musavvir traveled to Tbilisi, Georgia and Europe to complete his studies of art. When he returned home, he was commissioned by master Kamalolmolk, another Qajar era painter, to open a branch of the Kamalolmolk School of Art in Tabriz and ran the school for several years. Some of his artworks are preserved in the museums across the country. A collection of Mir Musavvir’s artworks, photos and documents related to the artist will be put on display in an exhibition that opens today at the Barg Gallery. A short film about his artworks will be screened during the ceremony. The exhibition will be running until June 6 at the gallery located at No. 13 Jamali St., off Vafamanesh Ave., in Heravi Square.
