Photo exhibit on famine-stricken Somalia to open at IAF today

TEHRAN,April 5(MNA) -- The Iranian Artists Forum (IAF) will be hosting an exhibition of photos on the famine-wracked people of Somalia entitled “In Somalia’s Color” opening today. Taken by young Iranian photographer Mahdieh Mirhabibi, the exhibit has been organized to raise funds for the famine-stricken people of Somalia. Mirhabibi had traveled to Somalia on her own expenses late September 2011 to depict part of the lives of the famine-stricken residents. The artist has already displayed her collection in the Peace Gallery of Tehran’s Red Crescent Museum. She is planning to return to Somalia, this time focusing on women and children. Iran has so far arranged several programs including photo exhibits to raise funds for the people of Somalia. On July 20, the United Nations declared a famine in two regions of southern Somalia owing to the worst drought in decades, and appealed for urgent resources to assist millions of people in desperate need of help.
