Photo exhibit to show Tehran through the eyes of Ali Hatami

TEHRAN,April 30(MNA) -- An exhibition of photos reflecting Tehran from the viewpoint of the deceased filmmaker Ali Hatami will open at the Six Gallery on Friday, May 4. Entitled “With Hatami in Tehran”, the photos are taken by photographer Aziz Sa’ati and covers Hatami’s movies produced after the Islamic Revolution. Hatami’s films focused on Iranian tradition and culture. Acclaimed films “Mother”, “The Suitor” and “Kamalolmolk” are among his credits. “This collection tries to show Hatami’s own perspective on Tehran, which is actually the Tehran Hatami had depicted in his movies,” Sa’ati told . He added that he would like to publish the photos in a book if a publisher expresses willingness, “The book would be interesting for the fans of cinema and I would also add my own personal notes, which have not been published any where else before.” Sa’ati also said that he has additional collections by other filmmakers like Bahram Beizaii and Masud Kimiaii, each reflecting Tehran from their viewpoints. The exhibit will be running for one week at the gallery located at No.6, 18th Alley, off North Kheradmand St. Ali Hatami was born in 1944 in Tehran and died in 1996. He was a filmmaker, screenwriter, art director and costume designer. A graduate in cinema from the College of Dramatic Arts, his debut was “Hasan Kachal” (Hasan the Bald, 1969), the first Iranian musical film. Since then, he paid particular attention to unusual rhythmic dialogs and also the use of traditional settings and architecture in his films, stylistic details that became characteristic of his works.
