PM arrives in Thai deep South
NARATHIWAT, September 5 (TNA) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra arrived in Narathiwat Province in Thailand's violence-plagued far South Wednesday afternoon to look into progress on measures to address unrest in the southernmost region.
Upon her arrival at Narathiwat's Provincial Hall, Yingluck was welcomed by those affected by the persistent violent unrest in the Thai deep South, including religious and communities' leaders, students, business operators, general public and even a widow group, called Rotan Batu in Muslim, whose husbands were killed by suspected insurgents in the Thai far South.
Relatives of local villagers killed in the so-called Krue Se mosque violence in nearby Pattani Province in 2004 also gathered to thank the government for granting more financial compensation and support for the loss of their loved ones.
The Prime Minister said before meeting with agencies concerned that she came to boost morale of local people and those of all parties concerned and to get first-hand information on
updates so that proper measures will be implemented to effectively quell unrest and to foster development in the Thai restive South. (TNA)
