PM Najib Gives Out Dates Contributed By Saudi Govt

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), May 26 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Najib Razak Friday handed out 10 tons of dates contributed by the Saudi Arabian government to all mosques and surau (prayer houses) in the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. The handing over of the dates contributed by the Ruler of Saudi Arabia, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud was carried out after the Friday prayers at the Ibnu Khaldun Dining Hall, Putra Mosque here. Also present were Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Jamil Khir Baharom, Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor and Head of the Cultural Mission at the Royal Saudi Arabian Embassy in Malaysia, Dr Zayed Al-Harithi and the Director-General of the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) Othman Mustapha. The contribution by Khadimul Haramain or the Custodian of the Two Holy Land was handed over by the Prime Minister to representatives of the mosques and Friday surau involving 70 mosques and 110 Friday surau in Kuala Lumpur and two mosques and 14 Friday surau in Putra Jaya. At the ceremony, Najib also launched the 1438H national level ‘Ihya Ramadan’ programme for spiritual and other activities throughout the month of Ramadan. Earlier, Najib joined Muslims in performing the Friday prayers and listened to the sermon entitled "Ramadan Bulan Tarbiah" (Ramadan the month of overreach) delivered by Jamil, who also joined the Friday congregation. -- BERNAMA
