Police Bust Three Drug Smuggling Syndicates

KUALA LUMPUR, June 4 (Bernama) -- Police busted three drug trafficking syndicates following raids at several locations here last week which resulted in the arrest of nine people, including a foreigner, and seizure of several types of drugs. The seized drugs comprised 28.8kg of cannabis, 750gm of syabu and 44,930 Eramin 5 pills. Bukit Aman Narcotic Crime Investigation Department Director Noor Rashid Ibrahim said six of the suspects, comprising four men and two women, were arrested in raids at a house in Kepong and another in Bandar Seri Damansara here on Thursday. He said police seized 44,930 Eramin 5 pills during the raid at the two premises. The six suspects were believed to be members of a drug trafficking syndicate which was active in the Klang Valley area, he told reporters here on Monday. He said police also arrested a 47-year-old Togo woman, believed to be a drug mule, after she swallowed capsules containing syabu during checks on arrival at the KL International Airport last Wednesday. The woman, who was being detained at Serdang Hospital, had so far released out 55 capsules, he added. Noor Rashid said that according to preliminary police investigation, the woman had entered the country 11 times since 2008. Based on Interpol information, she had connection with the drug lord in West Africa and was also close with drug syndicates from the country, he added. On the same day (Wednesday), he said police detained two men at Dataran Selayang in Batu Caves after finding 18 packets of compressed dried leaves, believed to be cannabis, in a bag they were carrying. "Following their arrest, police were led to a premises at Taman Amaniah, Batu Caves, where they found another seven packets of the compressed dried leaves," he added. He said all the suspects, aged between 22 and 60, were in remand for a week to facilitate police investigations under Section 39(B) of the Dangerous Drugs Act. --BERNAMA
