Police crackdowns on illegal immigrants, foreign criminal
BANGKOK, April 20 (TNA) -- More than 60 foreigners were arrested early Thursday morning in a police campaign to crackdown illegal immigrants and foreign criminal.
Officers of Tourist Police and Immigration Police raided over 120 locations popular to foreigners in Bangkok.
Most of the foreigners arrested in the operation were found to have been overstaying their visas and illegally entered the Kingdom, police said.
Pol Maj Gen Surachet Hakpal, deputy tourist police chief, said 11 foreigners were arrested for overstaying their visas and 51 others for unlawfully entry while four others were arrested on other charges.
He said under the campaign police searched 3,126 spots nationwide in 23 operations so far and arrested 868 foreigners for violating Thai laws.
Some of the criminals were those committing pickpockets during the Songkran Festival in Thailand, he said.
Victims of the gangs can claim their stolen items with police, Pol Maj-General Surachet said. (TNA)
