Police tighten security in Thai far South
SONGKHLA, August 3 (TNA) - Security officers have tightened security in Songkhla’s four districts, including, Hat Yai, which connects with three violence-plagued southernmost Thai provinces of Yala, Narathiwat and Pattani, as the end of Muslim fasting month of Ramadan is approaching.
Police told reporters on Saturday (Aug 3) that Thai Muslims and foreigners are expected to travel to the Thai far South to celebrate the Hari Raya, which starts after the Ramadan ends.
According to the local police, they have, therefore, strictly inspected on vehicles passing through checkpoints in order to prevent violence from occurring and to also restore confidence to people living in the Thai deep South. (TNA)
