Police:Overloaded platform causes skyscraper accident
BANGKOK, May 9 (TNA) - Deputy Metropolitan Police Chief Police General Anuchai Lekbamrung says that an overloaded platform has been initially assumed to cause a skyscraper accident in the heart of Bangkok on Monday, killing three workers and injuring two others.
Police General Anuchai told journalists on Tuesday when inspecting the scene that the three workers fell to deaths instantly from the 68th floor of the Baiyoke Tower, the highest building in the Thai capital, Monday afternoon, immediately after a cable-platform carrying them while they were standing to install an advertisement billboard collapsed, and that two other workers were able to grasp a handhold at a stable part of the remaining platform when the accident occurred; so, they suffered only minor injuries.
The deputy metropolitan chief insisted that an excess weigh caused the cable's platform bed to break down in half, leading to the fatal accident, not any breaking of the support cable, acknowledging, however, that people involving in the incident will be charged after an official investigation with the clear cause of the accident is complete, and that police has called on the owner of the advertisement company for an interrogation and will also question the two survivors.
