Positive community interaction to protect fish stocks praised

Manama, Oct. 31 (BNA): The Ministerial Committee for Reconstruction and Infrastructure, chaired by Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, followed up the executive measures aimed at regulating fisheries and reducing fishing in the marine environment and development of marine wealth.
Shaikh Khalid affirmed that fishing organisation and marine wealth protection are among the most important topics that the Committee is following in a series of issues related to food security in Bahrain that will be discussed in the coming weeks.
The Deputy Prime Minister commended the Cabinet's approval of the recommendations of the ministerial committee based on a set of measures and executive decisions to prevent the further deterioration of fish stocks because of its depletion of overfishing and expansion of fish farming projects and encourage investment in it as an economic and food resource.
He also praised the positive interaction of the Bahrain community and the media, calling for the adoption of the necessary decisions and measures to protect the remaining fish stocks in order to achieve the anticipated recovery of the marine wealth in the long term, noting the importance of community partnership to achieve the goal.
