Power service remains normal during gas supply suspension

BANGKOK, July 5 (TNA) - The state-run Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) reports that the electricity production and delivery status in the Thai South has remained stable, despite a temporary gas supply suspension from the Gulf of Thailand. EGAT said on Saturday that, from June 13-July 4, 22 days when gas supply from the Thailand-Malaysia Joint Development Area (JDA) had been suspended for maintenance of the JDA-A18 natural gas source, the situation in the southern Thai region remained normal, as all electricity generating facilities were able to operate to their full capacities and produce enough electricity to meet demand of local users. According to EGAT, total power consumption in the Thai South normally peaks at around 7:30pm, at about 2,226.31 megawatts. As overall power consumption in the Thai South at a peak period has been rising, EGAT called for local users to continue saving their power consumption during 6:30pm-10:30pm to ensure sufficient power supply and power security in the region. The gas supply suspension for the Thai South from the JDA-A18 source will continue until July 10, 2014. (TNA)
