Presentation of Kazakhstan at Frankfurt book fair

Frankfurt, October 19, 2009 (Khabar) - The city of Frankfurt on Main has witnessed the largest book fair in the world, which involved the presentation of 7 thousand authors from 100 countries. The fair also involved an exhibition from Kazakhstan. It is symbolic that this event coincided with the end of the year of Kazakhstan in Germany and the successful implementation of “Kazakhstan’s library” project.

Tobias Woss, vice-president, Frankfurt Book Fair:
- The globalization of the book market started here, in Frankfurt and Kazakhstan’s presence here is very important. Your stands fit into our single concept.

German readers are familiar with Kazakhstan’s books due to the “Kazakhstan library” project, which was initiated by the embassy of Kazakhstan in Germany.

Nurlan Onzhanov, Kazakhstan ambassador to Germany:
- The fair has a guidebook with the policy, economy, culture and tourism of Kazakhstan. “Kazakhstan’s way” by Nursultan Nazarbayev was published last year. This year we’ve seen a translation of the “Epicenter of peace” into German, the foreword to which was written by the former federal chancellor Gerhard Schroeder. Also, attendees enjoyed books by such writers of Kazakhstan as Abai.

Currently, a translation of the “Wanderers home” book by Herold Belger is being finished. Kazakhstan’s display at the Frankfurt book fair became possible due to the “Almatykitap baspasy” and “Mektep” publishing houses, whose productions appealed to the visitors. Attendees were interested in the “My Kazakhstan” book series as well as in literature for children. During the presentation of the “Minute of silence at the end of the world” book, Olzhas Suleimenov noted that the book enlightens humanity. He expressed his concern about the influence of computers, which is devaluing books.

Werner Linden, literature expert:
- I believe that Kazakhstan’s literature is very interesting. We were happy to listen to the writer, who represents the literary elite of your country.

Leonhardt Koschuta, reviewer and writer of political essays:
- We have published books by 25 writers from Kazakhstan due to which it has become possible to make our contribution to the development of “Kazakhstan’s library”. For me, Kazakhstan’s stand is the most interesting.

According to a report by the organizers, the Frankfurt book fair was visited by 300 thousand people.
