President holds meeting involving governors and mayors of Almaty and Astana
Astana, October 27, 2009 (Khabar) - Nursultan Nazarbayev has held a meeting featuring regional governors and the mayors of Almaty and Astana. The President said that the country’s economic state is improving in the background of the world’s leading economies recovering and hydrocarbon prices growing. The volume of production in the third quarter of 2009 is 4.3% higher against the second quarter with the manufacturing industry increased by 15%. The mining and agriculture sphere saw a 4.7% and 1.7% increase respectively. The government’s anti-crisis measures provided around 400 thousand new jobs including 260 thousand jobs as part of the Road Map project. This year, the communal housing and social facilities have been repaired with hundreds of kilometres of roads reconstructed. The government also supported students by allocating an additional 11 thousand grants as well as 40 thousand students’ loans.
Nursultan Nazarbayev also drew the meeting attendees’ attention to a number of issues. In particular, the 100 schools 100 hospitals programme was expected to be completed this year but 14 schools in the South Kazakhstan region, 4 in Kyzylorda region and 1 school in Astana are still behind schedule. Only 64% of the state-allotted funds have been used to date. The head of state urged governors to provide necessary supervision over the sphere of construction and to make sure all facilities are commissioned timely. Moreover, the president stated that in 2011, Kazakhstan will stage its first ever Asian games which is why the mayors of Almaty and Astana were urged to provide timely commissioning of all sport facilities for the forth-coming event.
