President presents “Altyn Sapa” award
Astana, November 13, 2009 (Khabar) - Results of the republic-wide competition for the presidential prize in the area of quality entitled “Altyn Sapa” have been announced. Nursultan Nazarbayev congratulated the winners of this prestigious competition. The awarding ceremony has taken place in “President-Hotel” and Kazakhstani President appealed to businessmen to join the realization of program of industrial and innovative development of country and prepare for new conditions of stricter competition. “Altyn Sapa” (Golden Quality) republican competition was founded 3 years ago and Nursultan Nazarbayev personally awards the best of the best.
Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan:
- I personally patronize this event because competition contributes to our most important national objective, entering top fifty competitive countries. Of course, improving the quality of products is the concern primarily of business during market conditions. But Kazakhstani society should morally support the realization of this task. And “Altyn Sapa" competition perfectly succeeds in this.
This year, 119 companies have taken part in the competition for presidential award for quality. Winners were defined in 3 nominations, such as the best production enterprise, the best enterprise producing goods for the population and the best enterprise that provides services.
Victor Til, president of the company “Kazchrome":
- Our President among all the Presidents of the post-Soviet area involved into economy development and promotion of our companies. He does everything to ensure that we have reached a completely different level and can operate in the global space.
Erbolat Nurgaliyev, director of “Brewing company “Derbes” LLP:
- Just the head of state vigilantly watches the development of our domestic industry and thus creates favorable conditions for our manufacturers for their improving of quality of their products and services.
Zakirzhan Kuziev, "Universal" company:
- I think this competition encourages small business to rise quality which as our President has repeatedly said that quality is fundamental promotion. So I think such contests and nominations give an incentive to continue to work on quality.
Gaziza Omarova, entrepreneur:
- At present the implementation of management system is settled at the governmental level according to the defined plan. “Altyn Sapa” competition is held annually under the patronage of the President and it allows to increase the competitiveness of products and services.
Sabit Sartbayev, executive director of “LG Electronics Almaty”:
- We can say without false modesty all our goods answer the international demands. And it is a merit of the head of the state first of all because he comprehends that Kazakhstan’s future will be guaranteed and safe if we manufacture the goods of highest quality.

- If we want to join 50 developed states, we must produce only qualitative materials and quality must only improved and rise.

- The competition is called "Altyn Sapa", "golden quality", and each Kazakhstani company proved this golden quality. Last year the head of the state personally appreciated our work and awarded with the first prize in the nomination "The best production company”. That became an impulse for us and it gives even more responsibility.

- In general, this award arouses great interest on behalf of businessmen as it is the most prestigious one and the president presents the award himself. There is also an opportunity of using this award in the business activity to show that the enterprise is the best. This year, there was an extremely tough competition among various enterprises. It was very significant and corresponded to 30 different criteria’s. They characterized the activities in all the areas, but it was not a five-grade score as many companies scored 800-900 points.
Nursultan Nazarbayev encouraged the entire business community to prepare for the new working conditions. Frontier of the Customs Union of Kazakhstan, Russia, and Belarus will open next year. The competition will become tougher on the market. However, on the other hand, local producers will obtain great opportunities.

Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that business should become an engine of Kazakhstan’s economy. The head of state promised to continue rendering assistance to domestic entrepreneurs in his turn. The president reported that the implementation of a large-scale program for forcing industrial development starts soon in the republic. It includes more than 300 projects, the total cost of which exceeds 90 billion US dollars. According to the president, only those who meet the present-day requirements will succeed within the context of intense competition. Therefore, enterprises should switch to international standards of management and quality evaluation. Kazakhstani companies have made great strides in this respect. For example, there were only twenty organizations which introduced modern management systems five years ago whereas now their number amounts to more than two thousand.
