Press Union of the Islamic World meeting opens in Tehran
TEHRAN,Oct.31(MNA) -- The second meeting of the Press Union of the Islamic World (PUIW) opened at the Interior Ministry in Tehran on Tuesday.
The meeting has been organized by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance on the sidelines of the 19th International Exhibition of Press and News Agencies, which is currently underway at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Mosalla.
A numbers of foreign and Iranian journalists, Vice President Mohammadreza Rahimi, Culture Minister Mohammad Hosseini, and several other Iranian officials attended the opening ceremony of the meeting.
“The Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) has proposed that Iran establish an association for Islamic journalists and organize a meeting of the association,” Hosseini said during his speech at the meeting.
He added that Iran welcomed the proposal, which was an OIC summit in August in Mecca.
“Iran welcomes every program and meeting, which could lead the Muslim elites to unity,” he stated.
Representatives of 50 news agencies have attended the second PUIW meeting, which ends today.
The PUIW was established by Iran during the International Exhibition of Press and News Agencies in 2011.
The union is comprised of 52 members including 38 dailies and 14 news agencies.
The 19th International Exhibition of Press and News Agencies runs until November 3.
