Priceless stamps displayed at "World Stamp Exhibition, Thailand 2013"
BANGKOK, August 6 (TNA) - Priceless stamps from around the globe have remained on public display at the "World Stamp Exhibition, Thailand 2013", held at the Royal Paragon Hall of Bangkok's upscale Siam Paragon Shopping Center from August 2-14, during which as many as 100,000 visitors are expected to show up.
Highlights of the grand philatelic exhibition, organized by Thailand Post Co., Ltd. under the royal patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, include the world’s most expensive stamp, valued at 75 million baht, and booths joined by over 70 countries worldwide, covering those from member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), including Thailand.
Part of the philatelic items have been showcased at the exhibition zone, including those colorful ones featuring not only outstanding stories of their nations, but also their cultures, people’s ways of life, symbols and landmarks, while the rest, also with national features, have been for sales at the participating international booths.
Apart from promoting activities of the global philatelic community, the two-week event also provides international stamp lovers and collectors with a platform for their exchange of knowledge.
As part of the event, the fifth world philatelic exhibition hosted by Thailand and marking the 130th anniversary of the Thai postal services, post executives of the 10-member ASEAN bloc have inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the joint development and issuance of an identical postal stamp, commemorating the formation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) by 2015 and representing ASEAN’s unity.
