Probe into death of illegal Thai worker in South Korea
BANGKOK, Feb 14 (TNA) -- Labour Minister Adul Sangsingkeo has ordered subordinates to facilitate police’s action against illegal job brokers after the death of a Thai jobseeker who visited South Korea as a tourist and later illegally sought jobs.
Anurak Tosarat, director-general of the Department of Employment, said the minister ordered both investigation facilitation and help for the family of a Thai worker who hung himself in South Korea after being abused as an illegal worker and becoming broke.
The minister also ordered labour officials to warn jobseekers against illegal work and related harsh penalties in other countries. Warnings have been placed on all possible media including social ones. The Department of Employment was looking for illegal job brokers who were inviting clients via the internet, Mr Anurak said.
He also said that illegal job brokerage that included frauds on jobseekers was liable to a jail term of 3-10 years and/or a fine of 60,000-200,000 baht. (TNA)
