Promoting sustainable development, energy discussed

Manama, Dec. 12 (BNA): Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for the Environment (SCE), Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa, today received Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussain bin Ali Mirza, in the presence of SCE Chief Executive Dr. Mohammed Mubarak bin Dinah and UNDP's Acting Resident Representative, Amin Al-Sharqawi. SCE Deputy Chairman hailed the minister's efforts in developing the sustainable energy and development and his keenness on cooperating with the SCE to achieve set goals. He highlighted the SCE's interest in promoting investment projects that contribute to supporting the national economy. Aspects of cooperation were discussed, as well as the implementation of renewable and sustainable energy projects in the Kingdom of Bahrain, which come as part of the Government Action Plan to diversify energy sources by investing in renewable and alternative energies, chiefly solar energy. The minister pointed out the government's keenness on diversifying energy sources and avoiding heavy reliance on oil and products. He said there are a number of new projects aimed at finding alternative and clean energy sources, such as wind and solar energy, that contribute to the preservation of the environment and climate in Bahrain. He emphasized that the Sustainable Energy Unit will coordinate national efforts and develop new policies and strategies to upgrade energy efficiency and allow more opportunities for alternative energies, including renewable energy, to achieve Bahrain economic vision 2030.
