Qatar Foundation Raises Autism Awareness Through Family Fun, Community Education

Doha, April 02 (QNA) - As Autism Acceptance Month begins, and ahead of World Autism Awareness Day 2022, awareness of the needs and challenges of children with autism has been raised through a family event at Qatar Foundation's Education City. Autism Vibes organized by the Autismparents.qa group and Qatar Foundation's (QF) Ability Friendly Program, which provides inclusive sporting opportunities offered a string of fun activities with an educational message for visitors, including a Walk for Autism around Education City's Oxygen Park and an on-screen appearance from Julia, the first character from children's TV show Sesame Street with autism. The event also included QF member Al Shaqab's Equine Assisted Therapy, a musical performance from QF's D'reesha festival, and football, cricket, and playball sessions for children. Meanwhile, the 2015 Building (QF headquarters) was lit up in blue to mark World Autism Awareness Day, which takes place on April 2 and was first proposed by HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, in 2007 and adopted without a vote by the United Nations General Assembly.
