Qatar Renews Commitment to World Sustainable Development

Geneva, February 27 (QNA) - Qatar has said it felt a special responsibility towards contributing to the world's sustainable development as it has made successful accomplishments towards securing a better future for its people, and adopted many initiatives on the regional and international levels as per its commitment to a useful role contributing the progress of humanity. Qatar's position was spelled out in the address of HE The Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage and chairman of the United Nations Conference On Trade And Development UNCTAD XIII in Geneva today at the meeting of the members of the preparatory committee of UNCTAD XIII. Al Kuwari said he was proud of the achievements of Qatar, noting that the accumulating experience it has gained helped it pursue its influential role in international affairs, including the sector of development. He renewed Qatar's commitment to contributing to UNCTAD XIII's success. He referred to the issues that will be taken up at the deliberations including topics related to development and the role of women in society. Geneva, February 27 (QNA) - HE Qatar's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr. Khalid bin Mohammad Al-Attiyah met here on Monday with the High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay , during his participation in the 19th high-level session of the Human Rights Council, which opened here today. During the meeting, they reviewed bilateral relations and joint cooperation between the State of Qatar and the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and ways to strengthen and develop them. HE the Minister Dr. Al Attiyah stressed that Qatar attaches great importance to strengthening and developing relations with the Office of the High Commissioner and United Nations mechanisms for human rights. For her part, Pillay voiced appreciation for the distinguished efforts made by the Qatari government in supporting and promoting human rights and fundamental freedoms at all levels and in all places, emphasizing the depth and excellence of relations and cooperation between the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the State of Qatar. She also praised the continuous support provided by state Qatar to UNHCR. HE Dr. Khalid bin Mohamed Al-Attiyah also met here today with the Minister of State for European and International Affairs of the Republic of Austria Dr. Wolfgang Waldner, . They discussed the relations of cooperation between the two friendly countries and ways to enhance them at all levels. The meetings were attended by HE Qatar's Permanent Representative the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva Sheikha Alya bint Ahmed bin Seif Al-Thani,, and Director of the Human Rights Office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Khalid bin Jassim Al Thani.
