Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council Cooperates with Ministry of Environment to Mitigate Effects of Climate Change

Doha, April 03 (QNA) - Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council has signed a joint cooperation program with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to mitigate the effects of climate change.
The signing ceremony was attended by HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed bin Ali Al-Thani, and the Secretary-General of the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council Engineer Omar Ali Al-Ansari.
The cooperation program was signed by the Director of Planning and Quality Department at the Ministry Aisha Ahmed Al-Baker, and the Director of Research, Development and Innovation Programs at the Council Nada Al-Awlaki.
This program comes within the framework of implementing the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Strategy 2030, and benefiting from it in supporting the sustainability of the Qatari environment, addressing the phenomenon of climate change and protecting the biological diversity of natural habitats, through the use of knowledge and advanced technology to achieve the objectives of the Qatar National Strategy for Environment and Climate Change.
The areas of cooperation cover several strategic axes, including supporting the identification of challenges and opportunities related to the environment and climate change in areas where knowledge and innovation can make effective contributions to finding innovative solutions for them, and building and developing partnership and cooperation between the Ministry on the one hand, and local companies and international companies research centers in Qatar on the other hand, on research, development and innovation, with the aim of supporting projects to develop innovative technological solutions in Qatar in priority areas.
In this regard, the Director of Research, Development and Innovation Programs at the Council Nada Al-Awlaki said that the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council is working to promote a culture of innovation in the government sector, thus contributing to achieving the sector's future goals, and providing new opportunities to benefit from innovative solutions and advanced technology in various strategic areas, which contributes to building a sustainable future based on knowledge and innovation as one of the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.
She added that effective cooperation with the concerned authorities in the priority areas identified by Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Strategy 2030 is one of the most important factors necessary to achieve the desired goals of implementing this strategy. Cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is an important step in strengthening the national innovation system and developing its ability to meet the urgent needs of the Ministry and its aspirations for a more prosperous and sustainable future for the people of Qatar.
For her part, the Director of Planning and Quality Department at the Ministry Aisha Ahmed Al-Baker, explained that one of the Ministrys objectives by signing this program is to work with the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council in order to benefit from advanced technology in providing innovative solutions that contribute to enhancing environmental sustainability and mitigating the effects of climate change, which casts a shadow on the present and future of the whole world, and that is why facing these challenges has become one of the most important priorities of developed countries.
This cooperation comes within the framework of the two parties efforts towards protecting the Qatari environment and enhancing the sustainability of its resources, which are among the priorities of the Qatar National Strategy for Environment and Climate Change, as well as the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Strategy 2030, where the Ministry aims to protect the environment and its natural balance, by seeking to reduce global warming, maintaining air quality, restoring abundant biodiversity, conserving natural resources, and taking measures to adapt to climate change.
