Qatar's Ministry of Environment Organizes Awareness Activities on the Occasion of International Plastic Bag Free Day

Doha, July 03 (QNA) - The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change organized awareness activities on the occasion of the International Plastic Bag Free Day, which falls on July,3 every year. The events, in cooperation with Al Meera Consumer Goods Company and Carrefour Qatar, included educating shopping mall visitors on the importance of reducing single-use plastic bags and replacing them with environmentally friendly biodegradable bags. In this regard, awareness and educational leaflets were distributed to inform the public about the types of environmentally friendly bags (paper, cloth and reused woven) in order to preserve and sustain the environment. The Director of Public Relations at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Farhoud Al-Hajri, stressed that the ministry's organization of such events aims to support efforts to reduce the excessive use of plastic bags and replace them with other environmentally friendly bags and to promote alternatives to plastic, in order to ensure the sustainability and safety of the environment. "These efforts focused on educating the public by explaining and clarifying the harmful effects of plastic on the environment, and encouraging the use of sustainable alternatives, especially with regard to plastic bags," said Nouf Bakhmis, the event supervisor. She pointed out that the events also included a cultural competition entitled: "Think with Us", during which a question is asked to visitors to malls regarding plastic bags, with the aim of raising awareness in this regard. For its part, Al Meera confirmed in a statement that its participation in these events came out of its belief in the importance of sustainability and contributing to protecting the environment and the country's natural resources, as a top priority in its work and an integral part of its responsibility towards society. For his part, the Regional Director of Carrefour Laurent Hausknecht, praised the commemoration of the International Plastic Bag Free Day, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, indicating that public awareness is an essential element for protecting the environment.
