Qatar's NHRC Deputy Chairman Meets Mauritanian Delegation

Doha, March 27 (QNA) - HE Deputy Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al Kuwari met with HE Chairman of the Mauritanian National Human Rights Commission Dr. Ahmed Salem Bouhoubeyni and his accompanying delegation.
The two sides discussed ways of cooperation and coordination to organize joint training courses to exchange experiences and best practices in the field of protection and promotion of human rights and the dissemination of international concepts and conventions related to them.
HE Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al Kuwari gave during the meeting, a full explanation of the work of the National Human Rights Committee, its objectives and specialties, and the role of the Committee in cooperating with state institutions and civil society organizations to promote and protect human rights, this is in addition to its advisory role in encouraging the state to join international conventions and charters on human rights practices.
His Excellency referred to the role of the committee in monitoring the human rights situation in all transparency and documenting this in its annual reports submitted to the concerned authorities in the country which contributed significantly to legislative developments and positive reforms that were clearly reflected on society, in particular the reforms of the Qatari labor law, the regulation of the entry and exit of expatriates and their residency, the abolition of the exit permit and other reforms that made positive progress in the march of human rights in Qatar.
The Mauritanian National Human Rights Commission delegation toured the departments of the National Human Rights Committee and was briefed about its mechanisms and systems of work. The tour included the Department of Programs and Education, and the library of the National Human Rights Committee and its holdings of books and resources related to the promotion and protection of human rights in addition to perusal of the committee's publications of introductory brochures, studies, annual reports, and the quarterly newspaper magazine issued by the committee.
The delegation was also briefed on the terms of reference and work methods of the Legal Affairs Department in terms of receiving complaints and petitions and how to deal with them, and the various mechanisms for submitting complaints whether through the hotline, through the committees website, or by attending directly to the committees headquarters and the methods adopted by the Legal Department in resolving complaints and communicating with the concerned authorities if necessary. The tour also included the Department of International Cooperation and familiarization with how to work in the field of foreign relations, ways of networking the Committee with international organizations and its methods in concluding cooperation agreements with relevant organizations.
For his part, HE Chairman of the Mauritanian National Human Rights Commission, valued the efforts of the National Human Rights Committee in Qatar and its experience in the field of dissemination, promotion and protection of human rights and the translation of these principles on the ground, pointing out that, through this visit, a package of ideas emerged that he would implement regarding the administrative structure of the Mauritanian Human Rights Commission, and to benefit from methods in monitoring the reality of human rights in Qatar.
The delegation commended the experience of the offices of the communities hosted by the Committee and considered this as honest evidence of the vision of the National Human Rights Committee in the importance of considering all petitions for all groups without discrimination. (QNA)
