QU Signs MoU with the GCC Secretariat General in Education and Scientific Studies Fields

Doha, March 24 (QNA) - Qatar University (QU) and the Secretariat General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) sign a MoU to enhance joint cooperation and to make use of the common potential between the two parties in the fields of education, training and scientific studies.
The agreement was signed by QU President, Dr. Hassan Al Derham as well as GCC Assistant Secretary General for Legislative and Legal Affairs Counselor, Sultan bin Nasser Al Suwaidi.
QU President, Dr. Hassan Al Derham commented saying, "The State of Qatar has contributed to a qualitative shift in education and research through the establishment of the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), which has, since its launch, provided great opportunities for our university professors and researchers in presenting research projects with international standards. Through this agreement, we aim to operate on that same idea by working on studies related to Gulf interests. In addition, Qatar University’s Gulf Studies Center will celebrate its tenth-year anniversary next week, since it was launched. The University also includes masters and doctoral programs specializing in Gulf studies, which receives great interest and resonates with many across the world."
GCC Assistant Secretary General for Legislative and Legal Affairs Counselor, Sultan bin Nasser Al Suwaidi adds, "The initiative comes as part of our desire to work with universities in the Gulf region, as well as centers of research and study. By establishing cooperation and partnerships, we can highlight challenges and come up with solutions in the development of this field as well as prepare various research and studies."
He adds, "We are thrilled to be working with Qatar University, which encompasses a variety of research centers. We also seek to allocate Chair for Gulf studies research, to further develop this field and we aim to sign with six Gulf universities and six research centers, and conduct seminars and conferences in this area, promoting this field of study and highlighting achievements and challenges."
The signing of this memorandum of understanding comes as part of the belief in the vital and effective role posed by the cooperation of Qatar University and the Secretariat General of the GCC in all areas of education, training and scientific studies and research, with the aim of developing and building capacity, exchange of experience, information, research, studies and dissemination of knowledge.
