Rabies outbreak zones remain in 38 provinces
BANGKOK, May 8 (TNA) - Thailand’s rabies situation is stable while the temporary outbreak zones remain in 38 provinces.
In the southern province of Satun, a cow, bitten by a stray dog, developed rabies-like symptoms.
Satun livestock official, Utthapol Saenpantha said officials abide by law, stepping up preventive measures to contain rabies by killing the suspected rabid cow. The animal was put into sleep with an injection. The carcass of the cow was buried two metres deep in the ground. The head of the cow was sent for examination and a calf is under quarantine.
The owner of this 10-year-old cow reported to the authorities that the cow turned aggressive and had excessive salivation and excitability after it had been bitten by a stray dog. The family members of the cow owner were vaccinated against rabies.
In Pathum Thani, two stray dogs bit a nine –year-old boy at a factory.
Officials visited the boy and two dogs are under quarantine to determine whether they have contracted with rabies or not.
Other stray dogs, living nearby have been checked for the disease. If a rabid dog is detected, local villagers will be vaccinated. Local authorities gave compensation money and necessities to the family of the boy. (TNA)
