Railway of Kazakhstan celebrates its 105th anniversary this year

Astana, July 31, 2009 (Khabar) - Today, more than 70% of the total number of transportation falls on the still main of 14 thousand kilometres. All the rates of Kazakhstani railroaders are constantly growing despite the economic crisis in the world. A celebration in honour of the best ones took place in Astana. The prime minister came to congratulate them. The last year’s main accomplishment was the launch of the locomotive assembly works in Astana. The “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy” company will be producing 50 electric locomotives, 2.5 thousand of freight and passenger carriages on an annual basis in the near future. In general, 5.5 trillion tenge are planned to be invested in the modernization of the railway industry in the long-term. The traveling speed of railroad passenger cars in particular will increase almost twofold in the future.

Askar Mamin, president, “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy” National Company JSC:
- It is necessary to carry out the modernization and restoration of 14.5 kilometres of the track structure, to reconstruct about 300 facilities of constructive works, and purchase 1.5 thousand locomotives, 50 thousand fright wagons and almost 2 thousand passenger cars industry-wide within the period until 2020.

Today, approximately 150 thousand people are working in the industry. Askar Mamin noted that these people are running one of the locomotives of the entire country’s economy.

- It is always especially pleasant for me to congratulate railroaders. I used to be a transport minister and therefore worked closely with each and every one of you. Secondly, as the majority of you know, I’m a railroader in the third generation. My parents were railroaders and their parents were railroaders as well. So, I’m a member of your family. I’m sending you my greetings on the occasion of this holiday.

Before the professional holiday, over 60 veterans and shock workers have obtained the “Honoured railway employee” title.
