Registrations for Bangkok governor hopefuls opened

BANGKOK, January 21 (TNA) - Registrations for candidates running in the upcoming gubernatorial election were launched at the Bangkok Metropolitan Adminstration (BMA) headquarters Monday morning and will be continued until January 25. The application for Bangkok gubernatorial candidates was lively on its first day, with Police General Pongsapat Pongcharoen, the candidate of the ruling Pheu Thai Party and his supporters arriving at the City Hall first at around 5:30am, followed by 15 other candicates and their supporters, including M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra of the main opposition Democrat Party, who is contesting for his second four-year term. Police General Pongsapat and M.R. Sukhumbhand later drew No. 9 and No. 16 respectively. About 400 city police and metropolitan police officers were deployed to ensure order at the venue. Police General Pongsapat announced that he will launch his campaign speech at the front yard of the City Hall on Monday evening. (TNA)
