Manama, Apr. 7 (BNA): Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Fawzia bint Abdulla Zainal, has affirmed that Bahrain has made quantum leaps and remarkable progress in respecting human rights and dignity through a series of national laws, as well as through taking many procedures based on the full compliance with international covenants and treaties. While meeting here today the Arab Union for Human Rights Chairman, Isa Al-Arabi, and Advisor, Dr. Maha Al-Shehab, the speaker stressed the Representatives Council’s keenness to support the civil society organisations and strengthen partnership with them so as to highlight Bahrain’s pioneering experience in the field of freedoms and consolidation of human rights principles. The meeting discussed the possibility of signing a memorandum of understanding between the Council of Representatives and the Arab Union for Human Rights to enhance joint cooperation in the legislative fields and boost the institutional framework of the human rights march in the kingdom. The two sides also discussed the third conference of the Arab Union for Human Rights, which will be patronised by the Council of Representatives. Isa Al-Arab said that the Arab Union for Human Rights is looking forward to holding its third conference, given its effective role in enhancing the human rights system in the legislative fields. Al-Arabi also stressed the importance of the role played by the Legislative Branch in passing and developing laws, which, he said, will contribute to boosting the kingdom’s democratic experience, optimise national achievements and meet the aspirations of HM the King’s Reform Project. This would contribute to efforts to continue building the state of law and institutions, as well as achieving social security and peace in Bahrain, he said.
