RTAF commemorates 76 years since Japanese invasion on Thai coast
PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN, Dec 8 (TNA) – The Royal Thai Airforce marks 76 years after Japanese invasion on Ao Manao beach in Prachuap Khiri Khan during the Greater East Asia War in 1941.
Air Force Commander-in-Chief ACM Jom Rungsawang laid a wreath at the veteran monument in Wing 5 in this province to commemorate veterans, who dedicated their lives to protect the country’s sovereignty.
Japanese troops landed on Ao Manao beach to besiege the Thai airforce base on Dec 8, 1941 so Japan could use Thailand as the passage to neighbouring countries.
Pol Sub Lt Prachuap Chalartpaed a World War II veteran, who is now 98 years old, was present at the ceremony in a wheelchair. He is one of four veterans, who are still alive. (TNA)
