Russian official says Akkuyu nuclear power plant offers 1 billion USD for Turkish construction sector

ISTANBUL (A.A) - The Director of Russia's International Information Academy, Gennady I. Vorontsov, has said the Akkuyu nuclear power plant to be built by Russia in Mersin, offered one billion USD of opportunities for the Turkish construction materials sector.
Speaking at an event co-organised by the Turkish-Russian business council in Istanbul on Friday, Vorontsov, said the construction of the Akkuyu plant would begin in 2012 and conclude in 2022. He said the first reactor would start operating in 2018.
"Number of workers to be employed will exceed 3,000. It will bring one billion USD of income for the Turkish construction materials sector. Any company or businessmen who take a shot in this will be rich by 2018. But it is important to make a move now. Of course, they can't bring all the materials from Russia, they will use local material, and because these materials will be in large quantities, it will be a great opportunity for Turkish businessmen," said Vorontsov.
He also said the 2014 Winter Olympics and 2018 World Cup finals will be held in Russia, noting that new facilities would be built in 13 cities. He said Turkish construction companies with good references in Russia could partake in these projects.
