Russky Island to be among first priority development areas in RF - Trutnev

VLADIVOSTOK, April 11 (Itar-Tass) - One of the first territories and priority development will be created on the Russky Island in Vladivostok, RF Deputy Prime Minister, RF president’s plenipotentiary envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev told a briefing in Vladivostok on Friday.
Not specifying the proposals on the creation of the priority development territory, Trutnev said though that the priority development area on the Russky Island would be based on the possibilities of a recreation zone and the development of science on the base of the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) and institutes of the Far East department of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).
“We should create conditions for the development of new technology on the island, to gather here the top brains of not only Russia, but also our neighbouring countries,” the deputy prime minister said. In his view, to this end it is necessary to create on the island the corresponding living and rest infrastructure.
Governor of Primorsky Krai Vladimir Miklushevsky said that a decision in principle was taken today on the creation of the priority development zone on the peninsula. The governor said the project’s federal status was another important decision. According to Miklushevsky, a working group will be created soon that will comprise representatives of the regional and municipal authorities, scientific establishments and FEFU that will deal with the creation of the priority development territory concept.
On March 26, Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the idea of the creation of a model priority development territory on the Russky Island.
Yuri Trutnev on Friday came to the Primorsky region on a working trip. He will stay here until April 15 and hold a number of meetings, including on priority development zones in the Russian Far East.
