Safety of Bahrain's legal measures confirmed

Geneva, Jan. 19 (BNA): The Arab Federation for Human Rights (AFHR) has confirmed the soundness and safety of legal measures taken by the Kingdom of Bahrain regarding the execution of three convicted terrorists who had deliberately planted and detonated explosive devices that killed three law enforcement officers. The AFHR monitored the stages of the court trial in Bahrain and attended several court hearings affirming keenness on ensuring that all legal and judicial sureties have been achieved in terms of a fair, transparent and honest trial for all suspects. The verdicts were implemented after all stages of litigation were exhausted in the presence of their attorneys, hearing their defence statements and their objection against the sentences at the various litigation levels. The Court of Appeals and the Court of Cassation twice deliberated the case in order to achieve justice and accountability for both the defendants and their victims, according to the AFHR statement. The Court of Cassation upheld the verdicts which became final and implementable in the manner that achieves justice, protects the community and maintain the safety and security of the entire community, according to the AFHR statement. The verdict was fully compliant with all of Bahrain's international obligations and the executions have been compliant with the Arab Human Rights Convention and the Gulf Human Rights Declaration, the AFHR said. The statement urged all political and societal forces in Bahrain to shun all forms of terrorism and extremism and to abstain from all forms of violence and instigation which would only enflame tensions and strife, destabilize the security and stability of the community and threaten national unity especially in the aftermath of terror attacks which claimed the lives of 25 security men and wounded more than 3,800 individuals since 2011, according to the Arab Federation for Human Rights.
