Sakai and Karen ethnic couples get married on Saint Valentine’s Day
RATCHABURI, February 14 (TNA) - Two couples of the lowland Sakai tribe, also known as Semang, in the Thai South, and seven Karen couples in Thailand's central Ratchaburi Province bordering Myanmar got married on Tuesday, the Saint Valentine’s Day.
Sakda Wittayasirikul, Manang District Chief of the southern Satun Province witnessed the marriage registrations of the two Sakai couples, after they have been approved the Thai citizenship and have been legally issued identity cards. The Manang district chief also used the occasion to encourage loving and caring atmosphere in all newly-wed families, the Sakai couples and others.
According to updated official census, there are currently over 60 ethnic Sakai people who were born and have lived in Thailand's southern Satun, Trang and Phattalung Provinces.
In Ratchaburi's Suan Phueng District, a traditional Thai wedding ceremony and official marriage registrations were also organized for seven ethnic Karen couples living along Thai-Myanmar border. (TNA)
