SAR Operation for 6 Missing Crewmen of Oil Tanker Continues

JOHOR BAHRU (Johor), June 17 (Bernama) -- The search and rescue (SAR) operation for the six missing crewmen of an oil tanker that allegedly exploded and capsized in Tanjung Pengelih, Pengerang near here two days ago, resumed Saturday. Southern Region Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) deputy director (Operation) Captain Maritime Sanifah Yusof said the operation which resumed at 8 am were mounted by 60 members of the MMEA, Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) and Marine Department, with the help from the Marine Police, Fire and Rescue Department and RMN vessel, KD Handalan. “The search area is around 40 nautical miles covering the waters off Tanjung Stapa to Teluk Ramunia,” he told Bernama when contacted here Saturday. At the same time, he said efforts to curb the oil spill believed to be caused by the explosion were also ongoing. The six crewmen were reported missing after the oil tanker allegedly exploded and sunk at at 4.6 nautical miles off Tanjung Pengelih near Pengerang, last Thursday. They were Indonesian nationals identified as Akhmad Faharuddin, 35; Muhamad Heri Hernanda, 28; Raden Abdur Rahem, 31; Rendy Alamanda,28; Sulkifli, 39; and Yohanis Sumari, 35. -- BERNAMA Print
