Saudi Arabia's pivotal role in facing extremism stressed

Makkah, May 28 (BNA): Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ministry Undersecretary for Islamic Affairs Dr. Farid bin Yaqoob Al Meftah said the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has always been and will remain the historical and civilisational depth of the Arab and Islamic nations. It will remain, he added, the bulwark of all Muslims. Dr. Al Meftah was speaking as he took part in the Muslim World League (MWL) conference which convened in Makkah under the auspices of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. He stressed the importance of the international forum on moderate Islam at this crucial time, commending the pivotal role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in fostering moderation and openness on the world by fighting the extremist ideology which has tarnished Islam and Muslims. He described the conference as a historical meeting of Muslim scholars and intellectuals on the land of revelation, pointing out the Document of Makkah which will emanate from the conference to become an approach for promoting moderation. Dr. Al Meftah asserted that holding the conference in conjunction with the Arab and Islamic summits in Makkah underlines the pioneering role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in serving Arab and Islamic issues and coordinating stances and visions to deter threats to the security of the nation and the Arabian Gulf. He described the forum and the Document of Makkah as a quality turning point in confronting the hardline ideology and promoting moderation and openness. He also emphasised the need to coordinate stances to promote the true concepts of Islam and reveal its real image and essence. He called on Islamic organisations to remain vigilant and adhere to methodic work to close in on the extremist ideology and lay bare its advocates. He urged the Muslim scholars and intellectuals to reshape Muslims’ awareness and understanding to protect them from any misunderstanding of Islamic ethics and precepts.
