SCE President highlights waste management file

Manama, Nov. 6 (BNA): HM the King’s Personal Representative, President of the Supreme Council for Environmental (CSE), HH Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, attached great importance to the waste management file as it is a government high priority, for it represents a major challenge as a result of the expansion in industrial, population, urban and other sectors. HH Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad highlighted the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to find solutions to address the wastes issue by turning them into useful resources, in conformity with Bahrain’s effort to implement the sustainable development goals and Bahrain's economic vision 2030. He said the SCE is jointly working with the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning to prepare a national strategy for waste management in implementation of the directives of HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister. He added the SCE, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the National Health Regulatory Authority, is in the process of issuing a ministerial resolution on the hazards of healthcare waste. HH Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad stressed keenness to strengthen partnerships with government and private sides and encourage investment in waste recycling and processing in line with the government’s directives. He said the SCE role is not confined to coordination and overseeing waste management plans, but, in collaboration with Education Ministry, Youth and Sports Affairs Ministry and government institutions and civil societies, it designs programmes and organizes workshops and meetings to disseminate awareness among all age groups.
