SCE President pledges to exert more efforts to reduce environmental effects

Manama, Oct. 12 (BNA): Personal Representative of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) His Highness Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa praised the speech of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa in the opening of the third session of the fifth legislative term of the Shura and Representatives Councils. He said the address reflects HM the King’s strategic and forward-looking vision to achieve more growth and prosperity as well as his interest and follow-up to confront challenges amidst the current circumstances in order to protect the environment and sustainable development from environmental changes like global warming and rising sea levels. HH Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa said the royal directives to develop appropriate recommendations to tackle the environmental effects and reduce their risks as well as implement the latest programmes in air cooling and protecting coasts from the rising sea level are among the most important projects SCE is studying and implementing them. The SCE President affirmed that the royal interest and follow up on the local and global environmental issue and His Majesty's deep concern for mankind is complementary to his concern for his environment and his future. This, he noted, enhances continuous efforts to serve citizens’ interests, boost the kingdom’s growth and make the best international environmental achievements. He also pointed out that the royal address is in tune with the international trend calling on countries to take the necessary measures to handle climate change due to the effects it will cause that are similar to what happened because of the coronavirus pandemic. HH Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa explained that with regard to the rise in temperatures, the Supreme Council for the Environment has analysed thermal surveys of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the past five years, and identified appropriate tree species that contribute to reducing carbon dioxide emissions, and thus lowering temperatures, and implementing four experimental projects in preparation for their generalisation to all regions in the Kingdom. He affirmed that the SCE attaches great importance to sea level rise, monitors areas of sea level rise, and analyses the causes of it. He noted that the council has identified the areas affected by rising sea level and those areas are now being identified in detail to draw the necessary recommendations to reduce the impact of rising sea level. HH Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa underscored commitment to achieving the aspirations of HM the King and move forward with the nation’s blessed march by bringing about further accomplishments at the local, regional and international level.
