Scholars pay tribute to Iranian astronomer Allameh Birjandi in Paris
TEHRAN,June 30(MNA) -- A group of Iranian and French scholars commemorated Iranian mathematician and astronomer Abdolali Birjandi (?-1527) during a ceremony at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on Thursday.
Organized by the Permanent Delegation of Iran to UNESCO, the program was arranged to mark the 500th birth anniversary of Allameh Birjandi.
Nezameddin Abdolali Birjandi, known as Allameh Birjandi, is famous for his works on mathematics and astronomy, and has written many books in these two fields that are preserved in Britain and India.
Director-General of UNESCO Irina Bokova and Iran’s Ambassador in Paris Ali Ahani attended the one-day ceremony.
About ten articles on Birjandi were presented at the ceremony. The articles were prepared by Mohammad-Hassan Ganji, Zahra Alizadeh and several other Iranian scholars.
Moreover, Iran’s representative in UNESCO Mohammadreza Majidi made a short speech at the ceremony referring to Birjandi’s influential role in the world.
Allameh Birjandi has written over 20 books in different fields of mathematics, geography, mechanic, agriculture and Islamic science.
He is mostly famous in the United States and Europe, as well as Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, and Russia. His works are kept in libraries and are still used and studied by the scientists.
A tribute was paid to Allameh Birjandi in his birthplace Birjand, South Khorasan Province in May.
