Sculptors’ competition results
Astana, January 14, 2010 (Khabar) - Two new monuments to Kerey and Zhanibek khan as well as Abay will be built in Astana this year. Architects and representatives of the city administration have picked out the best projects. Sculptors Bolat Dozhanov and Rinat Abenov became the competition winners. The monuments to the khans and Abay will be put up in a park on the left bank area of Astana and in the city’s old centre respectively.
Sagyndyk Dzhanbulatov, chief architect of Astana, deputy chairman of judges:
- We liked the dynamics and the monument’s composition in particular. It’s very powerful as it presents the young khan holding a flag flying in the wind and Kerey showing this land. So, basically, it displays the idea of the Kazakh khanate’s formation.
