SCW electoral efforts praised

Manama, Sept. 18 (BNA): Capital Governor Shaikh Hesham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa lauded the efforts of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), under the presidency of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King, in raising awareness of Bahrain women of their rights and preparing them to participate in voting or running for the parliamentary and municipal elections. He pointed out the importance for Bahraini women to take part actively and effectively in political life in support of the royal reform project. He underlined the need for women to stick to their right to vote or run because of its obvious effect on building the nation and its prosperity. The Capital Governor made the comments on the occasion of a workshop held by the Capital Governorate in cooperation with SCW on the role of Bahraini women in the legislative and municipal field. The workshop was presented by SCW Legal Advisor Dr. Mohammed Al Masri. The Capital Governor deputised Social Programmes and Community Affairs Director Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa to patronise the event which witnessed massive participation and great interaction by the audience. Dr. Al Masri reviewed development of Bahraini women's political participation, pointing out that taking part in elections dates back 100 years and has been boosted in the reform era of HM the King.
