SCW participates in UN Women meetings

Manama, July 2 (BNA): The Supreme Council for Women (SCW) participated in the annual session of the UN Women’s Executive Board, held at the UN headquarters in New York on June 18-21, as part of the kingdom’s membership in the panel for the 2017-2019 period. Representing the SCW at the session, International Relations Advisor at the SCW’s Secretariat-General, Mohammed Al-Fares, extended the kingdom’s thanks to the UN Women, led by Phumzile Mlambo-ngcuka, for its unwavering interest in and follow-up on the efforts exerted by the International Community to achieve more progress for women and increase their contributions to development. He expressed Bahrain’s appreciation of the improved indicators introduced to the UN Women’s Global Evaluation Reports Assessment and Analysis System (GERAAS), which, he said, would develop the evaluation process and contribute to issuing periodic reports in this regard. The SCW also participated in a meeting devoted to revewing the report of the UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women on the implementation of the Strategic Plan 2018-2021. During the meeting, Bahrain submitted a proposal on adopting a mechanism to present and exchange the successful experiences, projects and initiatives implemented by Arab countries, including Bahrain, to highlight the women’s advancement plans and programmes which are based on the principle of balanced partnership between men and women in the national development process.
