SEA President highlights projects using renewable energy solutions in agriculture

Manama, Apr. 9 (BNA): President of the Sustainable Energy Authority (SEA), Dr. Abdulhussain bin Ali Mirza, held a virtual meeting with the Agriculture and Marine Resources Undersecretary at the Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, Dr. Nabil Abu Al-Fateh, and the Secretary-General of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD), Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa. The remote meeting focused on the ongoing cooperation between SEA, the Agriculture and Marine Resources Department and NIAD, and discussed the prospects for taking advantage of the renewable energy solutions in developing the agricultural sector in the kingdom. Dr. Mirza reviewed the preliminary work plan prepared by the joint specialised team, including a host of proposed projects and initiatives to be implemented in a pilot phase and then operational stages with a view to their feasibility. He highlighted the most important benefits of the projects on the agricultural sector, which would enable it to join the national and global shift towards renewable energy and benefit from the energy efficiency technology, noting that they do not require preliminary investment costs on agricultural projects’ owners. Dr. Mirza shed light on the main achievements of the renewable energy and energy sector in the kingdom thanks to the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, as well as on SEA’s future projects. Dr. Abu Al-Fateh lauded the work plan prepared by the joint team, noting that it is consistent with the strategy of the Agriculture and Marine Resources Department’s vision, in line with the importance attached by HM the King to the sustainability concepts. He indicated that the agricultural sector is essential for achieving the kingdom’s food security, adding that all efforts focus on developing the sector and enabling farmers to increase production and improve the efficiency of the efficiency of agricultural operations. NIAD Secretary-General praised the preliminary work plan presented by Dr. Mirza, and the efforts exerted by the joint team to propose projects and initiatives, noting that NIAD looks forward to implementing modern applications of renewable energy in the agricultural field on a large scale as the best means to achieve a sustainable future.
