Search continues for victims of mudslide in Mae Hong Son

MAE HONG SON, Sept 18 (TNA) - Heavy machine and equipment have been dispatched to the Mae La Oon refugee camp in a remote area near the Thai-Myanmar border to search for seven missing persons after the area was hit by a mudslide on Sunday. A two-year-old toddler girl was killed and twelve people were injured while 13 houses were damaged by the flash flood and mudslide. The province declared the village in Sop Moei district as a disaster zone, said deputy provincial governor Sakorn Roongrueng. The governor today convened a meeting with related agencies to intensify the search mission, which will be expanded to cover the Yuam River. The Mae La Oon camp is home to around 10,000 ethnic Karen people from Myanmar. Many people have stayed there for decades. (TNA)
