Second Persian calligraphy biennial selects winners
TEHRAN,June 11(MNA) -- Organizers of the Second International Biennial of Calligraphy announced winners in different sections of nastaliq, shekasteh nastaliq, naskh, and sols during a ceremony held in Qazvin on Saturday.
The jury picked 65 works out of 940 submitted to the secretariat of the festival, secretary of the event Mohammad-Hossein Shafieiha told .
The award-giving ceremony took place in Qazvin, birthplace of master calligrapher Mir-Emad (1553-1615) in the presence of Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Hosseini and a group of artists and cultural officials.
The biennial commemorated the name of master of shekasteh nastaliq Abdolmajid Taleqani this year.
Abdolmajid Taleqani (1737-1717) was a great master of shekasteh nastaliq in the history of Persian calligraphy. He achieved a high position in calligraphy during his short life and is now buried in Isfahan.
The first prize in the naskh category went to Mohammad Musavi-Nasab. Mostafa Rezaii and Mohammad-Taqi Sheikh-Ahmadlu received the second and third prizes respectively.
Hamid Jafari got the first prize in nastaliq. The second and third prizes went to Mostafa Abedini and Ahmad Sabahi-Kia.
The jury deemed no work worth of the first prize in the sols section, but the second prize went to Ali Irani and the third prize was shared between Farhad Shir-Khani and Majid Dastani.
In shekasteh nastaliq, Gholamali Guran, Zabiollah Lo’loii-Mehr and Alireza Amini were selected the first, second and third winners respectively.
Several calligraphers as well the jury members were also honored at the ceremony.
