Security authorities hold urgent meeting
BANGKOK, February 11 (TNA) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra called an urgent meeting of security authorities in Bangkok on Monday morning,following two latest bombing attacks in the violence-plagued Thai far South, killing five soldiers and injuring five others totally.
Yingluck told journalists before the meeting that the security authorities concerned who were invited to attend the meeting, including National Police Chief Police General Adul Saengsingkaew and members of a committee tasked with implementing strategies to solve violent unrest in the Thai deep South, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Police Captain Chalerm Yubumrung, would discuss the updated situation in the southern border region.
Yingluck said that the security authorities would also discuss principles and more integrated work of concerned partied, supported by her government, which cover needed budget and development plans, to restore peace and order in the southernmost Thai region.
Whether a curfew should be imposed in certain areas in the troubled Thai deep South, the prime minister acknowledged, would be then decided by the authorized panel, supervised by Police Captain Chalerm, suggesting, however, that careful consideration is needed, taking impacts on local people's normal ways of life into account, before a decision is made.
The meeting was held after five soldiers were killed and another was wounded in Yala Province and four army rangers were wounded in nearby Narathiwat Province on Sunday.(TNA)
