Security beefed up at US Embassy in Bangkok

BANGKOK, September 17 (TNA) - The government has ordered for a stricter security at US Embassy and Consulate in Thailand, after riots broke out in the Islamic world, dissatisfied with a movie insulting the Prophet, Mohammad. Speaking to reporters Monday, Thai Foreign Affairs Minister Surapong Tovijakchaikul acknowledged the security beef up at the US Embassy in Bangkok, after protests broke out at US Embassies in Libya and Egypt. Surapong said there have not been any peculiar movements nor reports from the US Embassy in Bangkok, but he has ordered for stricter measures to be carried out at the embassy, as well as at the US Consulate in the northern Chiang Mai province. He said he believes there would not be any untoward incidents at either office in Thailand, mentioning also that the US Embassy has not asked for extra assistance. (TNA)
