Serbia hopes Syria returns soon to practice its leading regional and international role

14 December، 2022 Belgrade, SANA- Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has stressed the need to respect Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, expressing hope that Syria would overcome the difficulties that it has been passing through and embark on the path of recovery and prosperity. The Serbian President’s remarks came while accepting the credentials of Ambassador Bassem Jamaan Agha as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Syrian Arab Republic to the Republic of Serbia. President Vucic hoped that cooperation between the two friendly countries and peoples would gain momentum through the appointment of ambassadors. The Serbian President affirmed that relations between the two countries are based on mutual respect and friendship that dates back to the time of the former Yugoslavia Republic and the effective and joint contribution to the Non-Aligned Movement. Vucic noted that there is wide scope for strengthening bilateral relations in all field. President Vucic thanked Syria for its principled and continuous support for preserving Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, expressing his great respect for the ancient Syria, its civilization and its people. The President wished that Syria returns as soon as possible to exercise its leading role in the region and the world, sending his warm greetings to President Bashar al-Assad. In turn, Ambassador Jamaan Agha conveyed to President Vucic the greetings of President al-Assad to President Vucic and all the friendly Serbian people and his wishes for Serbia further development and prosperity, and thanked him for his good feelings towards Syria, its people and its leadership. Ambassador Jamaan Agha offered a presentation on the situation which Syria has been passing through. The Ambassador shed light on the suffering of the Syrian people as a result of the unilateral coercive measures imposed by some Western countries, led by the US, in addition to plundering Syria’s resources of oil and wheat in the areas occupied by the US forces in cooperation with the separatist militia of QSD, and the continued support provided by those countries to the terrorist organizations in Syria.
