Services at Thailand's Suvarnabhumi Airport unaffected by curfew

BANGKOK, June 3 (TNA) - International passengers are welcome at Thailand's main Suvarnabhumi Airport, where all services remain intact despite a curfew imposed in the country since May 22, 2014, as ordered by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO). Suvarnabhumi International Airport Director Raweewan Netarakavesana confirmed on Tuesday that the curfew, imposed in almost all areas in Thailand from midnight to 4am, has not affected all services provided by the Suvarnabhumi Airport. Raweewan stated that international passengers holding valid passports and air tickets can "enter" and "exit" the Suvarnabhumi International Airport around the clock as usual despite the curfew. Raweewan said that international visitors to the Suvarnabhumi Airport are fully facilitated by soldiers on duty. According to the director, the number of international passengers using the Suvarnabhumi Airport now stands around 90,000-100,000 daily on average, which is considered normal during the annual low tourism season currently. The director foresaw that the number of international passengers using the Suvarnabhumi Airport should reach 130,000 daily on average, as usual, by the end of this year, as the political situation in Thailand is returning to normal. Meanwhile, the NCPO has lifted curfew in three major Thai tourist destinations, including Pattaya in the East, as well as Phuket and Samui Islands in the South, effective from June 23, aimed to boost tourism-related businesses in the areas.
