Shura Council condemns attack on Bahrain’s embassy

Manama, June 28 (BNA): The Shura Council strongly condemned the storming of Bahrain’s Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq, by a group of protesters, which left damages in the building of the embassy. It rapped the attack which violates the law and the immunity of diplomatic missions, stressing the necessity of protecting embassies and consulates round the clock to stave off saboteurs and deter attacks. In a statement today, it called on the Iraqi authorities to hold accountable the perpetrators who stormed Bahrain’s embassy and bring them to justice to stand trial in accordance with law provisions. Bahrain and Iraq are both signatories of the 1961 Vienne Agreement on Diplomatic Relations, which makes it necessary for Baghdad authorities to comply with the convention, protect diplomats and members of the diplomatic mission as well as the Embassy and Consulate”, said the statement. The Shura Council stressed fraternal relations binding Bahrain and Iraq whih are built on common interests, adding that any act that contravenes customary rules, principles or values from any side woud be condemned and unacceptable.
