Shura Council stresses Bahrain’s commitment to human rights

Manama, Dec.18 (BNA): Bahrain’s firm commitment to international covenants consolidates human rights, guarantees peoples rights and defines their duties, based on the constitution and national laws, said the Shura Council.
In a statement, the Shura Council rejected the resolution issued by the European Parliament regarding human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
“The resolution which relied on inaccurate information, lacks objectivity and professionalism”, it said, noting that these distorted facts spread by those who seek to defame the Kingdom of Bahrain and harm its interests.
“Bahrain is a country of institutions and the law that heed, in compliance with the treaties and agreements that the Kingdom has signed and acceded to, especially the Universal Declaration of Human Rights”, said the statement.
It commended the integrity of Bahrain’s judiciary system which provides all guarantees for the accused and convicted in various civil and criminal cases.
It stressed Bahrain’s commitment to providing all information and data, and presenting them to the international community during the discussion of the human rights periodic review.
It voiced dismay over the European Parliament's disregard of the factual information provided by Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry, relying instead on one-side opinions to formulate ill-intentioned resolutions decisions that detached from reality.
